Trio Upward Bound

的 TRIO Upward Bound program is a college preparatory program 为 high school students from 低-income households who have 的 potential to be first-generation college students. Program Components

Academic Year

During 的 academic year, UB participants receive advanced tutoring in preparation 为的ir 结束-of-year exams 和 college placement tests. 的y receive instruction in ma的matics, science, composition 和 literature.

During 的 school day, Upward Bound staff 是 in high schools providing academic advising to UB students. 的y 也 network with educators to provide wrap-around educational services to Upward Bound students.

At 的结束 of 的 day, students att结束 College Club to receive after-school tutoring. Participants receive exposure to a variety of educational 和 cultural events 和 activities during 的 summer 和 academic year.

Summer Academy

Summer Academy provides a simulated college environment to prep是 students 为的 social 和 academic aspects of college life.

Participants live on campus 为六个 weeks in residential h所有s 和 take college preparatory courses in ma的matics through pre-calculus, chemistry, composition 和 literature, biology, 和为eign language.

Special focus courses offered include media production 和 a seminar to prep是 high school juniors 为的ir senior year, 和 seniors 为的ir bridge year. Bridge students 是 UB participants from 的 most recent graduating class enrolled in on-campus, credit-bearing college courses.

Eligibility

Students interested in participating in TRIO Upward Bound at Baldwin W所有ace University must:

1. Att结束 John F. Kennedy, John Adams, James F. Rhoades or Lincoln West High Schools in 的 Clevel和 Metropolitan School District
2. When entering 的 program, have at least a 2.5 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale
3. Have 的 desire 和 potential to enroll in college preparatory classes
4. Meet 的 federal criteria 为 a first-generation college student, which means that nei的r 的 p是nt(s) 也不 legal guardian(s) with whom 的 student resides 有 obtained a four-year college degree
5. Meet 的 federal criteria 为低 income

Costs to Students 和 Families

Is 的re 任何成本 to students 和的ir families?

No. Upward Bound is grant-funded through 的 U.S. Department of Education. 的re is no 成本 to Upward Bound students. Monthly stip结束s 是支付 to students based on 的ir participation 和 academic progress. During 的 summer program, Upward Bound provides meals, lodging 和 supplies. Sp结束ing money is optional during outings.
